I’m not quite sure how it happened or why.
I started out 2010 planning to do the Great South Run in October. Mostly because my entry rolled over from last year as I pulled out in advance.
After a few weeks of training, I thought I’d add something in a little bit sooner to make sure I didn’t get bored of it all too quickly. So I signed up for the Marwell Wildlife 10km in May.
Soon after that, I read a whole bunch about Triathlons and Duathlons and saw that there was a pretty cool duathlon in May being held at Goodwood – I’ve never been there.
After signing up for that, I noticed that there was a similar event (again at Goodwood) a few weeks before hand, being organised by the local Tri club that would be a good introduction and practice for the more ‘public’ one in May.
Apparently, in athletics speak that gives me two “A” events (GSR and the second duathlon) and two “B” events – get me!
…and that’s not all.
I’m left with a four month gap between the 10km and the 10 mile Great South Run. Granted, July and August are probably going to be pretty busy given the scheduled arrival of our first born but I still think I’m going to try and find something for late August and perhaps mid-September.
Whilst I’m at it, I’m thinking of using the winter to train up for the London marathon next year (if I can get a place in the ballot) and perhaps even the Escape From Alcatraz triathlon in San Francisco if I can make a co-incidental work trip
Of course, until May comes and goes, these are all just good intentions for now and even I wonder if I’ll be able to stick it all out.
Call me crazy but having goals, both short term and longer term, gives me something to work towards and helps keep the boredom and short attention span at bay.
Now, I need to find an interesting 30km cycle route round here…..
