Disclaimer & Disclosure
In the interests of full disclosure and in keeping with my employers guidelines, I’ll call out that I work for a software company called Symantec and have done since June 2005.
My official job title is Sr Product Manager for our Core Security Business Unit.
My current product portfolio (as of January 2011) covers mail security for Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino, as well as malware protection for NAS devices and Microsoft Sharepoint. Additionally, I manage the Product Management aspect of Symantec Traffic Shaper appliance (aka Brightmail Traffic Shaper) and various internal projects around anti-spam effectiveness and accuracy.
Most recently, I brought the Symantec Next Generation Network Protection 1.0 suite to market and I’ve spent the last 3 years focused on gateway messaging and web security with Symantec Brightmail Gateway and Symantec Web Security, prior to which I worked with Enterprise Vault.
If you would like to reach me in a professional capacity please contact me via email to ian_mcshane@symantec.com and I will be happy to talk to you.
I can also be found at one of the live music venues in and around Portsmouth, The Wedgewood Rooms and The Pyramids being my favourites, sometimes with camera in hand (My Gig Pics) and most times with a beer in my hand.
I run this blog in my own time and from my own pocket. That means that, unless otherwise stated, views and opinions expressed here do not reflect the views of my employer or indeed anyone associated with my employer.
Of course, everything posted here is posted “AS IS” and come with no warranties or rights.
